- F. E. MUNROE, county clerk of Rusk county, and one of her
prominent and substantial citizens,
- was born in 1867 in Rock county, Wis., where he lived until
the age of five years. His parents then removed to Adams county,
where he lived until his sixteenth birthday, obtaining his education
in the public schools.
- In 1883 Mr. MUNROE went to Montello, Wis., where he entered
the ottice of the Montello
- Express, where he served an apprenticeship of three
years, remaining in the same office a year and a half longer.
Upon his return to Adams county he became connected with the
Adams county Press, at Friendship, and continued with
that journal for two and a half years. His next business engagement
was four years with the Tubbs Laboratory Printing Company, of
River Falls. In April, 1895, he came to Chippewa, now Rusk, county
and located at Apollonia, where he established the Budget,
a six-column quarto Republican newspaper, which he ably conducted
for six years. Upon his appointment as county clerk in 1901,
he sold his paper and entered upon the duties of his new office,
to which he has been re-elected. During his residence at Apollonia
he served one term as town clerk, five years as school clerk,
his administration of the duties of all these offices being satisfactory
in every particular. In 1895 he began the agitation which resulted
in the division of the county, and kept it up until the object
desired was accomplished. He made use of both pen and personal
effort and appeared three times before the State Legislature.
Mr. MUNROE thus deserves much credit for a measure which has
resulted in great benefit for all concerned in this section.
- Fraternally Mr. MUNROE is prominently identified with the
I.O.O.F. In 1892 he joined Lodge
- 199, at River Falls, and now belongs to Ladysmith Lodge,
No. 119, and to the Encampment in Ladysmith. He belongs also
to the Modern Woodmen at Apollonia and to the Mystic Workers
of Ladysmith.
- In 1893 Mr. MUNROE was united in marriage with Miss Crystal
ENSIGN, and they have one
- son, Harry. Mr. MUNROE is one of the leading citizens of
this section and has done yeoman work in advancing the interests
of Rusk county. His abilities are recognized and have been justly
rewarded.
