- J. E. CORLISS was born in Orange county, Vermont, August
4. 1807. In 1834 he emigrated to
- Laporte county, Indiana ; from there he went, in 1837, to
Rock county, Wisconsin, where he remained some time, returning
to Laporte in 1844. In 1852 he went to California by way of the
Isthmus, returning the next year and going into Iowa, from which
state, in 1854, he came to Kansas, settling in Johnson county.
He was county commissioner of his county in 1859 and member of
tbe first state legislature in 1861. Mr. CORLISS was married
in 1836 to Elsie JESSUP, of Laporte county, Indiana.
