born in LeRoy, N.Y.. Apr. 3, 1832; fitted for college at LeRoy Academy, N.Y.; Genesee Coll., '51-'53; Amherst Coll., '53-'55. Principal of Sodus Academy, N.Y., '55-'56; of Warsaw Academy, N.Y., '56-'57; studied Chemistry and Physics in Univ. of Göttingen, Germany, '57-'59; Ph.D., Göttingen, 1859; Professor of Chemistry and Natural History, Victoria Coll., Coburg, C.W., '59-'67; in Beloit Coll., '67-'68; Professor of Chemistry, Amherst Coll., since '68. Author of a work on " Meteorites," "Manual of Qualitative Analysis," "Non-metallic Chemistry," and " Lecture Notes on General Chemistry."
