- Mr. Walter S. SARGENT is an exemplification of what honest
labor
- can accomplish when accompanied with thrift; when Mr. S.
was born on the 6th of Feb., 1843, his father was a brick mason
in New York city. At the early age of 13 he went to work to learn
the trade of blacksmith and foundryman and in 1876 came to Janesville,
Wis., where he remained for one year before coming to Evansville,
since that time he has worked steadily for the Baker Mfg. Co.
By sticking to his job he has saved money enough to buy property
in the town and has the respect of its citizens. He has for years
belonged to the Masonic Fraternity and is now a Knight Templar.
His only daughter has been cashier in Great Falls, N.H., for
several years.
