- Accompanying portrait represents one of the pioneer settlers
of this
- county. Mr. Cyrus John MITCHELL was born in [New] York State
on the 1st of April, 1821; was married to Miss Charlotte M. WILDER
in 1848, by whom he had two sons who are both professional men,
the oldest being Geo. R. MITCHELL, M.D., of Richland Center,
Wis., and the Rev. John Cyrus, who is pastor of the Unitarian
church at Milton, N.H. Mr. MITCHELL and his present wife, Mrs.
Amandy E. CORNELIOUS [CORNELIUS?], reside in a very pleasantly
situated house called Prospect Hill, built in 1861, just inside
the [Evansville] city limits on Cemetery road, his farm contains
seventy-two acres and notwithstanding that seventy-five summers
have passed over his head, he is hale, and with the assistance
of his good wife is able to do his own work and always has a
pleasant word and look for those with whom he comes in contact.
