- FRANK F. LOVELL, tugboat owner, bridge and dock builder;
came to Racine with his parents
- in 1857; was educated in the district schools; at the age
of 16 years he went to work as fireman on a tug boat; advanced
to engineer, after to captain and owner of a tug boat, and partner
with David GILLEN and T. L. WHITBECK in the bridge and dock building.
Born June 22, 1851, in Beloit, Wis.; son of Phillip and Louisa
LOVELL, of Yorkshire, England, who emigrated to this country
in 1845 and settled in Beloit, Wis.; moved to Racine in 1857,
and formed a co-partnership with Mr. Hugh GORTON in the butcher
business, which lasted till his death - July 12, 1873. Mr. GORTON,
his partner sixteen years, speaks of him as one of the most remarkable
men he ever met; kind, unselfish, of even disposition, generous,
and never troubled. Frank F. is a member of the Knights of Honor
and Royal Arcanum.
