- Morris CRAMER was born in Ireland in approximately 1811.
Morris married Ellen KEEF
- (KEEFE) (also born in Ireland) and had five children: Jeramiah,
John, Daniel, Mary, and Margaret. Morris purchased 80 acres of
land in the town of Clinton, Wisconsin Territory, on October
17, 1845, at $1.25 per acre, a total of $100.00. He went to Milwaukee
to purchase the land and it was a cash transaction. A copy of
the original land purchase was found in Madison.
- In October of 1854, Morris sold land (about 3 acres) for
$50.00 to the Catholic bishop, John
- McHUNE, which was used for St. Catherine's Cemetery. (The
cemetery is still located on this land which was formerly Morris'
in Clinton Township, Rock Co., WI.)
- Morris was a farmer and according to the 1850 census, his
real estate was valued at $100. By the
- 1860 census, his real estate was valued at $1600 and his
personal property set at $150.
- Morris died on January 27, 1869, and is buried in St. Catherine's
Cemetery in Clinton, Wisconsin,
- along with his wife and son, Jeramiah, who died on August
15, 1858. Morris, Ellen and Jeramiah all share a gravestone.
After Ellen died, the farm was sold and John, Daniel, Mary and
Margaret moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.
- The Wisconsin Historical Society has certified Morris and
Ellen CRAMER as Pioneers of
