- E. W. PIERCE, Sec. 2; P.O. Paoli [Dane Co., WI]; born Feb.
9, 1831, in Jefferson Co., N.Y.;
- his parents, Alfred and Julia A., were also of New York State;
in 1843, the family came West with a team and wagon, camping
out by the way, and reached Janesville when there were only three
framed buildings in it, viz., two stores and STEVENS' Hotel;
they farmed it in Rock Co., until 1852, then settled in Springfield,
Dane Co. Here E. W. PIERCE married Malinda SEWARD, of Cattaraugus
Co., N.Y., and began farming on his own hook, on Sec. 33; he
cleared up a farm there, and, in the spring of 1867, settled
on his present 180 farm; WEBB, WATTERMAN, TIPPLE and SEWARD were
its former owners, and its only building was a log house; today
a tasteful farmhouse, with the basement barn 34 x 50 feet, corn-house
18 x 24, granary 16 x 16, and other buildings, are the result
of the care and labor of E. W. PIERCE. He is a Republican, and
Assessor one year and Supervisor five; has Merino sheep, Poland
hogs, and is a live and thorough farmer. Mr. and Mrs. PIERCE
have four children - M. Roscoe, Josephine M., Antha M. and Herbert
