- A. B. CARPENTER, ESQ., is one of the oldest and most enterprising
citizens, coming to the place
- at an early day, he at once commenced the active business
career by which he has been able to distinguish himself and greatly
benefit the town. He has successfully engaged at various times
in banking, merchandising and manufacturing. He is the owner
of a large amount of city and county real estate. Probably no
one man has done more for Beloit, in building and improving property,
and encouraging business enterprises. He has erected several
of the largest and best business blocks in the city. During the
past summer he erected the finest business block in town, assisted,
as we are informed, by his son, James M. CARPENTER. It is built
of stone, with Milwaukee brick, iron and cut stone front; it
is situated on East Bridge St. and is an ornament to the city.
Mr. C. solicits correspondence from all quarters of the country.
He owns one hundred city and village lots, farms located in Rock,
Green, Dane, Juneau, Marathon, Pierce and Polk counties, and
in Mankato, Minn. He proposes to open a real estate office in
this city, and all parties living at a distance may safely entrust
their business to him. His reputation is established; he is known
far and near as one of the most able, thorough and reliable business
men of the northwest. He owns one of the finest residences in
Rock county, situated adjacent to the city, and containing forty
acres of good land. This he offers for sale upon the most reasonable
terms. Parties residing at the east, desiring to invest in western
property will do well to address Mr. A. B. CARPENTER. In this
(Rock) county alone he owns fifteen hundred acres of land, all
of which will be sold on the most reasonable terms. It seems
that Mr. CARPENTER, while justly working for his individual advancement,
has at the same time the best interests of Beloit at heart. No
opportunity so favorable and promising for establishing a substantial
banking house in this city has occurred for years as that offered
at the present time, and the subject of this sketch, ever alive
to the interests of his adopted city, is using every honorable
endeavor to effect this great result. The attention of business
men is called to this fact, and parties abroad feeling an interest
in this matter can safely address Mr. CARPENTER and be assured
that thereby they will be put in full possession of all the facts
relating to the subject. [written by] Col. W. O. MOFFITT.
