- CHARLES D. ROSA is a native of Rock county and was born on
a farm in section 9 of the town
- of Center, on the 15th day of September, A.D. 1870. His
father was one of the early pioneers of Rock county, having settled
in the town of Center in May, 1841. Young ROSA attended the
district school near his home during boyhood and at the age of
fourteen took upon himself the running of the home farm. He
was thus engaged until in his twentieth year, when he was thrown
from a horse and injured in such a manner that the doctor advised
his giving up the arduous labor of the farm. He then entered
Evansville Seminary and after two years at that institution came
to Beloit and entered Beloit College Academy. Upon finishing
at the academy he entered Beloit College and graduated as Salutatorian
in the class of 1898. After graduation he served as principal
of schools at the city of Edgerton for three years, when he resigned
his position and moved to Madison to take up the study of law.
On the 17th day of August, 1899, he was married to Grace Lillian
CHAMBERLIN, a classmate in Beloit college. He graduated from
the law department of the University of Wisconsin in 1903, having
completed the course in two years, and immediately took up the
practice of law in the city of Beloit. In April, 1906, he was
elected judge of the Municipal court of the city of Beloit and
entered upon his duties May 7, 1906.
