Light Artillery, December, 1863; the battery was with Sherman; having joined him, they went to Altoona Pass, and met the rebels in defense of the forts under Gen. Corse, which desperate fight has become historic from the fact of its having furnished the name for a popular hymn; he was with Gen. Sherman at the capture of Atlanta, and on his march to the sea, and through the Carolinas, remaining with his battery until it was mustered out at Madison, Wis., July 11, 1865.
