- JOHN ZUILL - Born in Stirlingshire, Scotland, on the 26th
day of September, 1816. He
- emigrated with his father from Glasgow to America in 1845,
in the month of May, and arrived in Rock County, Wisconsin, on
the 1st day of August, 1845. He shortly afterwards located five
hundred and sixty acres of land on sections 13 and 24, in Johnstown
Township, where he has since resided. This land was at the time
it was purchased entirely unimproved, but is now under a high
state of cultivation, with a good house and other necessary outbuildings.
At the age of thirty-nine, Mr. ZUILL was married to Miss Elizabeth
PURVIS. They reared a family of four children, three of whom
are still living, viz., William, John P., and David F. Mr. ZUILL
is a zealous supporter of all religious and educational interests.
The only education he acquired was in the common schools
of Scotland. His vocation in this country has been that of a
farmer exclusively. In the acquisition of property he has been
very successful, the secret of which has been his close application
to business and fair and honest dealings with all his fellow-men.
Politically he is a strong supporter of the Democratic principles,
has always held an influential position in the community in which
he resides, and is a worthy and highly respected citizen. His
attention has been turned latterly to the breeding of blooded
stock.
