- STEPHEN SCOTT - Mr. Stephen Scott was born in Ashford, county
of Kent, England,
- November 13, 1807. After receiving a common school education,
he for a number of years followed a mercantile life, but emigrated
to America at the age of twenty-three. Resided in New York fifteen
years, following the vocation of farmer. Removed to Rock County,
Wisconsin, in 1845, where he purchased a farm of one hundred
and twenty acres from his uncle, Benjamin FOWLE, at government
price, and subsequently added forty acres more. His present farm
on one hundred and sixty acres is well tilled, and contains a
good house, barn, and other buildings. Mr. SCOTT was married
in April, 1832, to Mrs. Margaret FOWLE, and has had six children,
three sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. He participated
in the first meeting held to organize the township of Bradford,
was elected one of the first supervisors, and has held many other
offices of honor and trust. A gentleman of much prominence in
his township, he has always been held in the highest esteem by
his fellow-citizens, and is looked up to by all as an upright
and honorable man.
