"Asa G. Ransom"

ASA G. RANSOM - Mr. Ransom was the second son of Asa and Hannah RANSOM, and was
born in March, 1823, at Middlefield, Otswego County, New York. Asa emigrated to Milwaukee in 1843, where he hired out at eight dollars a month, and after awhile removed to Rock County, and engaged in threshing for ten years, and during this time built the first hotel in Emerald Grove, in the year 1850. He also purchased eighty acres of wild land, and has added to his first purchase until he now owns a farm of four hundred and twenty-seven acres of prairie and ninety acres of timbered openings, with a convenient, well-furnished house, good outbuildings, and plenty of stock. Mr. R. was married January 17, 1858, to Miss Martha, daughter of Nicholas and Anna HUBBLE, who now reside in Sharon, Wisconsin, at a very advanced age. Mr. and Mrs. RANSOM have a family of five children, - three sons and two daughters. Mr. R. has been chairman of the township board of supervisors for four years, justice of the peace for ten years, and has held many other offices. A fine view of his residence appears on another page of this work.
