- RUSH BEARDSLEY - The subject of this paragraph was born in
Westmoreland, Oneida
- County, New York, May 20, 1824. He was the second son of
Levi and Mary BEARDSLEY. He removed with
his father to Vernon, in the same county, in 1826, and from there
he emigrated to Rock County, Wisconsin, in June 1848. He arrived
in Janesville with no means, and lived there four years, during
which time he earned enough to purchase eighty acres of land,
since which time he has made several additions, and now has a
splendid farm, where he resides. At the age of thirty-two he
was married to Miss Amanda M. CRUMB, by whom he has had five
children, one of whom only - Miss Grace - is now living. Mr.
BEARDSLEY was assessor of Johnstown Township four years in succession,
and chairman of the township board of supervisors five years
in succession, which latter position he still holds. Though beginning
work in a new country with nothing, he has been reasonably successful
in the acquisition of property. He is a strong supporter of all
religious and educational interests; and, politically, supports
the old Democratic principles. He is a highly respected citizen.
