- DR. JOHN M. EVANS. Dr. EVANS was the first physician at "The
Grove," as the one frame
- house, one double log cabin and log school house was called,
when he settled there in April, 1846. When a postoffice was established
there in 1849 it was called "Evansville" in his honor.
Dr. EVANS was elected to the Wisconsin legislature in 1853 and
again in 1873.
- Dr. EVANS graduated at the La Porte, Ind., Medical College,
which later merged with the Rush
- Medical College, Chicago.
- During the Civil War Dr. EVANS was surgeon of the Thirteenth
Wisconsin infantry.
- His son, Dr. J. M. EVANS, is now in practice in Evansville.
- Dr. EVANS was a 32d degree Mason. He died in August, 1903.
