- DAVID BARLASS, farmer, Sec. 36; P.O. Emerald Grove; born
in Fifeshire, Scotland, in May,
- 1830; he came with his mother and sister to Wisconsin in
1844; they first lived in Johnstown Township, Rock Co. David
received a fair education; he was born and raised on a farm;
he first farmed on Rock Prairie for 50 cents a day; was industrious
and economical; saved his earnings and invested in land; in 1855
he purchased a farm on Rock Prairie; he now owns 120 acres of
fine land; a good farm, one of the best in this portion of the
State; he has been steady, frugal and a good manager. He married
in the fall of 1856, Miss Catharine MOORE, born in 1837, in Stillingshire,
Scotland; have two children - Andrew and Helen. Republican;
members of the Scotch Presbyterian Church.
