- HENRY WINKLEY, farmer, Sections 19 and 29; P.O. Janesville;
born in England in 1837;
- came to Wisconsin in June, 1866, locating at Janesville,
where he was engaged in teaming five years; he then moved to
the town of Rock, where he farmed for six years in 1877, moved
to Secs. 19 and 29, where he cultivates 160 acres. Married,
July 4, 1857, Miss Elizabeth DOWSE, a native of England; had
eleven children - Jarvis, who died in England at the age of 2
years; John, born Nov. 19, 1863; Charles W., Sept. 20, 1861;
Susan J., Sept. 29, 1866, who died in 1868; Harriet F., born
Oct. 28, 1867; Jessie E., Sept. 12, 1868; Emma Jane, March 17,
1870; Richard H., May 8, 1873, who died in 1875; Earnest, born
in 1875; Martin, Nov. 19, 1876; Grace, May 2, 1878. Mr. W. raises
corn, oats and tobacco. He enlisted in the Lincolnshire militia
for five years and served through the Crimean war. Republican.
