- WILLIAM SMITH, attorney; was born near Dover, Canada, May
1, 1841, while his parents,
- natives and citizens of New York, were temporarily sojourning
there; came to Rock Co. in September, 1841; educated at Milton
College; admitted to the bar in 1865; commenced practice in Janesville
the same year; came to this city in April 1864. He was for two
years Justice of the Peace, and four years Police Justice. Mr.
SMITH married Louise M. STEELE at Janesville, April 9, 1868;
she was born at Buffalo, N.Y. They have one child - Evalyn Louise,
born July 15, 1872.
