- H. D. McKINNEY, born in Tolland Co., Conn., March 1, 1833,
but lived till his 19th year in
- Springfield, Mass.; then went to New York City and spent
nine years in mercantile business; from 1861 to 1865, was general
contractor for the Government; among the large contracts, Mr.
McKINNEY delivered to the United States Government Post at Nashville,
56,000 cords of wood in the brief space of twenty-one months.
He married Laura IRWIN in January, 1864; she was born at Nashville
in 1843; they have three children - Harry, Maude Irwin and Laura
Theresa, aged 14, 12 and 10 years. Mr. M. came to Janesville
in 1867, and was soon after elected Alderman, in which office
he served two years. He is a Mason, and also a member of the
Royal Arcannum.
