- M. M. CONANT, grocer; born in Plainfield, Vt., July 13, 1829;
was engaged in grocery business
- in Boston for a number of years; came to Janesville in 1869,
and has been in the same business ever since. Married Mary P.
KIMBALL Nov. 8, 1856; she was born in Irasburg, Vt., June 5,
1834; they have four children - Alice M., Arthur H., Kate L.,
Clarence M., aged 22, 21, 18 and 15 years respectively. Mr. C.
was School Commissioner two years; has also spent four years
in California; was one of the first Trustees of the City of Yreka,
Cal. During the war, was Quartermaster's Clerk under Gen. Pitcairn,
in the Army of the Potomac.
