- G. E. NEWMAN, farmer, Sec. 6; P.O. Cooksville; born in Oxford
Co., Me, Oct. 26, 1823;
- came to Wisconsin in 1850, locating in Union Township, Rock
Co., and engaged in farming; in 1854, he sold his farm and engaged
in the mercantile business in Cooksville; in 1836, he bought
a farm of 160 acres; in 1859, he gave up his business and turned
his attention to farming. He was elected Justice of the Peace
in 1874, and re-elected in 1878, but failed to qualify; he was
elected to the State Legislature for 1876. Married in Cincinnati,
Ohio, Nov. 19, 1848, Miss Elizabeth WARDALL, a native of England;
has six children.
