- J[ohn] V[an Eps] HUGUNIN, was born in Fultonville, Montgomery
Co., N.Y., June 17, 1829.
- He received a common school education, and attended an academy
two years. He came to Wisconsin in the spring of 1849, and settled
at Johnstown. March 16, 1853, was married to Caroline NYE, of
Beloit. In 1868, he sold his farm and bought one of 274 acres
near Janesville, in the town of La Prairie. In 1875, purchased
forty acres more, and erected a brick residence, on top of which
the whole surrounding country for miles can be seen. They have
five children - W. Nye; W.C; Frank and Carrie were born at Johnstown;
John Morgan was born in his present home. Mr. H. held the offices
of Supervisor and Assessor each two years.

- John's parents were Richard HUGUNIN and Jane "Jannetje"
VAN EPPS, who immigrated to Rock County with their children --
Emeline, Sarah, Jane, John Van Epps, Van Epps, Louisa and Harrieta.
My 3rd Great Grandfather was Van Epps HUGUNIN.
- The family is listed in Johnstown in the 1850 census with
children John, Van Epps, Louisa
- and Harriet.
- Van Epps HUGUNIN enlisted on September 16, 1861, in Johnstown
in the 13th Wisconsin
- Infantry. After the war he returned to Rock County and
is listed in 1870 census. He later moved on to Philips County,
Kansas.
- Jane and Richard are both buried in the old Johnstown
Cemetery.
