- WALTER G. HAMILTON, farmer; P.O. Milton; born in Alfred,
Allegany Co., N.Y., June 24,
- 1833; son of Samuel and Hanna B., who came to Rock Co. in
the summer of 1843; in the fall of the same year, settled in
Harmony Township, Sec. 1, on sixty acres of land. Samuel C.
(father of W. G. H.) died July 15, 1865. Walter G. was educated
in the first schoolhouse ever built in Milton, finished his education
at Milton University; taught one term in the West Milton District
School. In 1861, was appointed Postmaster at Milton; served
thirteen years; resigned in 1874, and took a trip to California
for his health.
