- D. D. WINKLEY, farmer, Sec. 6; P.O. Clinton; born in Dover,
N.H., Aug. 16, 1847; son of
- Darius WINKLEY, whose father was a sea captain who sailed
out of Portsmouth, N.H., and who came of old English stock; Darius
was a cloth and wool merchant and carried on the business very
successfully; he died in 1862, at the age of 56; Cyrus, his brother,
came to Clinton in 1844, and settled on 240 acres; he carried
on farming till his death July 15, 1876; Mr. D. D. WINKLEY bought
this farm June 1, 1877, and now has a good farm of 240 acres
in Clinton; pays particular attention to raising stock - short-horns,
etc. Married Nov. 22, 1876, Nellie GRISWOLD, daughter of Cyrus
GRISWOLD, a prominent farmer and neighbor; have one child - Elsie,
born April 12, 1878.
