- PETER HALVERSON, farmer, Sec. 8; P.O. Beloit; born in Norway
Dec. 22, 1878; he came to
- America in 1839, and located in Du Page Co., a short distance
from Chicago, Ill.; he lived there one year, then came to Clinton
Township, and, in December, 1843, moved to Newark Township.
In July, 1846, he took up forty acres of Government land in Section
8, sold it to his son, who made all improvements, and built a
residence and barns, then bought it back again, and now occupies
it. He married, while living in Clinton, in 1843, Sarah OLESON.
They had eleven children, six now living; his son is now living
with him and working for him; he owns in all 200 acres of land
in Sections 8 and 9; with all improvements; he has held the office
of Side Supervisor and Town Treasurer, but has no desire for
public life.
