"George M. McKey"

GEORGE M. McKEY, insurance and real estate agent, is a son of Michael and Elizabeth
(FOLDS) McKEY, and was born at Janesville, Feb.. 15, 1857. His father and Uncle Edward were the leading merchants in the State of Wisconsin in their day. Under the name of McKEY Bros., they carried on an extensive retail store at Janesville with several large branch houses in the larger towns of the State.
The subject of this sketch was educated in the schools of his native city, and began his business
education in the well known business house of Marshall Field, of Chicago, with whom he served for two years. He then went to Madison, Wis., where he spent the greater part of four years, assisting in the management of a large mercantile house belonging to his brother and uncle, McKEY & FOLDS. In 1880, he bought his brother's interest in the stock of the old firm of McKEY Bros. and carried on the business until June, 1885. He was then occupied with the care of the real estate of his father and uncle, and in June 1, 1888, engaged in his present business.
Mr. McKEY was married in Lockport, N.Y.., on the 15th day of June, 1881, to Miss Mary A.
DOUGLASS, a native of that city. Two children have been born of their union, a daughter and son - Elizabeth D., and Douglass F. Mr. McKEY is a Democrat in politics, and is a member of Western Star Lodge, No. 14, A.F. & A. M., of Janesville Chapter, No. 5, R.A.M.; and of Janesville Commandery, No. 2, K.T.
