- GEORGE M. PIERCE, farmer, Sec. 12; P.O. Janesville; born
in Lawrence Co., Vt., June 1,
- 1828; son of P. A. and Maria PIERCE; removed to Rock Co.,
in October, 1840, where there were only two house on the site
of Janesville; located on 160 acres, part of which is now the
site of the State Asylum for the blind. The PIERCE brothers have
increased the farm to 300 acres. Mr. P. went to California in
1849, and returned in 1860, when he married Miss Ann COMSTOCK,
of Rock, and settled on the farm he now owns; he raises Durham
cattle, Poland-China hogs and Norman and Morgan horses, and keeps
them constantly in stock. Mr. P. is a F. & A. Master Mason;
members of All Souls' Church, Janesville. Has served as Collector
and Assessor of Rock from 1861 to 1863. Have three children -
Ida M., born Oct. 6, 1861; Fred, Aug. 12, 1865; Pearl, May 10,
1868.
