- ABRAM PHELPS, farmer, Secs. 8 and 9; P.O. Janesville; born
in 1811 in Berkshire Co., Mass.
- Married Miss Marietta MOORE, of Monroe Co., Mich., in 1838;
had two sons - Milton M. and Franklin W.; both enlisted in the
Union army; Franklin died of disease contracted in the service,
in 1863; Milton was shot through the lung at the second battle
of Bull Run, while serving as First Lieutenant in the Tenth Pennsylvania
Vols., but recovered. Abram PHELPS and family are members of
the Court street M. E. Church. He is Republican in politics.
Raises Durham grade of cattle, Norman grade of horses, Poland
and Berkshire hogs, also the usual crops of his county; owner
of 202 acres of land, and located in Rock Co. in 1866.
