- H. M. COBB, mechanic, Clinton Junction; born in town of Waterbury,
Vt., June 4, 1828; son of
- Ebenezer COBB, a prominent farmer in that county; he was
a soldier in the war of 1812, and his father was a soldier in
the Revolutionary war. Ebenezer COBB was at the battle of Plattsburg;
he died about 1870, at the age of 78 years. Mr. H. M. COBB first
went to Burlington, Vt., and engaged in making wagons; carried
it on successfully two years, and was then burned out, and lost
all he had. Came to Clinton in 1855, and commenced the manufacture
of wagons, trucks, etc.; has been in that business ever since;
he makes heavy wagons; his trucks are sent over all the West.
Married, in January, 1849, Elizabeth CAMPBELL, daughter of Ross
CAMPBELL, of Scotch descent; have had one child - Wm. M. COBB,
who is express messenger on the M. & St. P. R.R. Mr. COBB
was in the Quartermaster's Department during the war, in Sherman's
Division; was appointed Captain of sixty men, and detailed to
go to Atlanta from Nashville; while on the way occurred a collision,
in which Mr. COBB was severely wounded; was confined a sufferer
eighteen months.
