Richard Waterhouse has been doing rambles of Oakland Cemetery since 1989 when he became a docent. In 2000, he designed a ramble that spotlights the symbols. He currently hosts a monthly symbolism e-newsletter, and monthly rambles of Oakland’s symbols.
 
He has been Executive Director of the Southeastern Museums Conference in Atlanta, GA., Visual Arts Manager of the Georgia Council for the Arts, Interim Visual Arts Director of the Southern Arts Federation, Weekend Docent Coordinator of the High Museum of Art and Art Coordinator/Director of the Okefenokee Heritage Center, Waycross, Georgia.
 
He is a practicing ceramic artist and has shown his work at the Inman Park Festival, the Virginia Highlands Summerfest, the Swan Coach House Gallery all in Atlanta and the Cairo Ceramics Biennale, Egypt in 2000. His current work involves symbols.
