EARLY EFFORTS TO PROMOTE FANTASTIC CAVERNS

An early clipping from the Springfield Missouri News & Leader dated March 7, 1962 shows the prime location given the Cave Booth the first time at the show. It was the first booth seen as visitors entered the arena for the Sports Show. It was during this show that Loyd Evans would first meet and criticized the cave for it advertising SPRINGFIELD'S ONLY TOURIST ATTRACTION. While this was true, it was done in an effort to spur others to build and attract travelers to stop again in Springfield now that the Ozark Jubilee was closed.

LOYD EVANS joined the cave family a month later and moved the production of his FARMARAMA COUNTRY MUSIC SHOW to Fantastic Caverns Auditorium. Loyd had a lease with a local theater that had expired and he was using his back yard to put on the production.

CHIEF EVERGREEN TREE performed during this same show on stage and with this chance meeting, would spend time performing at the caverns and for local schools. There is more about Evergreen Tree on this Web site of this famous Indian performer.
