Recollections of A Confederate Soldier

of the Struggle for the

“Lost Cause”

The Recollections is the description that my great-grandfather Anthony W. Riecke wrote about his years fighting for South Carolina during the Civil War. It was written so his family would understand more about the time. I'm making this transcription so that his family, widespread now, can continue to share his experience. I hope that researchers of the Civil War era will find this transcription useful as well.

I work using the following tools:

Scanner: Epson Perfection 1200U
OCR: Caere OmniPage Pro 8.01 for Mac
HTML: PageSpinner 2.1
The text was transcribed from the original journal as faithfully as my talents allow, including original spellings and punctuation. Proper names were sometimes particularly difficult to piece out. I apologize for and will appreciate notice of any errors in the names. The page numbers from the original script journal are shown in brackets. Most of the illustrations are included, though some were too large for me to scan for inclusion here. Thumbnails of the newspaper engravings open to a full image.
