Rascha, child of Fred

August 12, 1901Delta - The home of Fred Rascha is suffering with severe affliction. Three children are sick with the measles and the baby of 10 months died on Saturday. The funeral service was attended at 2 pm today by the Pastor of the ME Church from the home on the William Hicks farm. The remains were buried in Lee Valley Cemetery.

Oriskany Falls - Henry Rawnsley, 78, a native of the town of Lee, passed away at his home here Saturday after an illness of several months. He was a son of William and Deborah Peacock Rawnsley. Besides his wife, who was Darah Dix, he is survived by a brothr Wiliam of Oriskany Falls, two nieces and two nephews.

Mrs. Emily P. Raymond, 88, widow of William R. Raymond, formerly of Lee, passed away at her home at 171 Davison Street, Schenectady. She was born in Lee on March 7, 1844, and lived there until 30 years ago when she moved to Schenectady. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Daisy L. Raymond at home. The body will arrive here Sunday morning at 8:24 o'clock in charge of Waldo Wiggins Prince and will be taken to the Evergreen Cemetery at Stokes for interment.

Delta - The people of this village were greatly grieved yesterday morning to learn that Roswell M. Raymond, one of the oldest and most respected citizens here, had passed away at the age of 81. Mr. R. had been ailing for some time with a complication of diseases, which terminated in pneumonia. He moved here from Rome 49 years ago and conducted a boot and shoe store and shop, which, owing to failing health, he had to give up five years ago. He was always honest and upright in all his dealings. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, the 28th, at 11 am. from the M. E. Church of which he has been a member for 40 years. Rev. M.G. Wadsworth, assisted by Rev. J. W. Roberts, of Rome, will officiate. Mr. Raymond leaves an aged wife, to whom he has been married for over fifty years, and one son, William R. Raymond, of Lee Centre. In politiics he was a Democrat.

Sarah Crofoot Reams, wife of L. C. Reams of No. 109 E. Stone alley, died at 11:45 pm on Thursday aged 35 yrs 8 mos. Mrs. Reams lived in West Branch all her life until the family removed to Rome about 10 years ago. She was a devout Christian and an active member of the Liberty St. M. E. Church. The loss is irreparable to the family which, besides Mr. Reams, consists of four children, Charles, Flossie, and infant twins Howard & Harold. Deep sympathy wil be felt for the bereaved ones. Other surviving relatives are one sister, Mrs. S. M. Chapin of Rome and one brother, Wallace Crofoot of Lowell.

Lee Center - At 9 o'clock on Monday evening at his home near this village, occurred the death of William Rice, aged 56 years. Mr. Rice had been ill for the past four days with measles but was not considered to be in a dangerous condition until Monday. He was born in the town of Lee, and had always resided there. The funeral services were held at his late residence at 3 o'clock on Wednesday. Rev. E. V. Evans, assisted by Rev. Richard Millington, officiating. Besides his wife he leaves four children. The interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery

Again has death visited our town and taken from our midst one of our oldest inhabitants. Mrs. Katie Richmond, widow of the late Micah Richmond, of the Valley, passed away last Friday night, the 4th inst., at the age of nearly 76 years. She had been a sufferer for about two years, and during the past few weeks her death had been hourly expected. The funeral was held at the Valley Church. Rev. T.H.McClenthen, assisted by Rev. J.W. Simpson, officiating. The remains were interred in the cemetery adjoining the church. Deceased leaves a son and four daughters -- Charles Richmond, Margaret Richmond, Mrs. Caroline Barnard, Mrs. Wright Wilson, of Lee, and Mrs. Wm. H. Schick, of Chicago. Besides these, several brothers and a sister are left to mourn.

Reigler, Mrs. William

Point Rock - Last Thursday the funeral of Mrs. William Reigler was held in the Reformed Church of this place, at 11 am. The services were conducted by Rev. H. A. Harris. The floral offerings were numerous. Mrs. Reigler was a member of out Sabbath School. The parents and husband, who brought her to his home only last fall, have the sympathy of all. The large attendance at the funeral attested her worth.
Robbins, Wheeler

Delta - News of the death of Wheeler Robbins of Eau Claire, Wis. has just been received here. He was a son of Ebenezer Robbins and one of a family of 13 children. He moved many years ago to Wisconsin, where he married. His wife died several years ago and last September his son Hubbard also died. Since then he had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Martha Fields, who survives, together with two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Sly of Norwich, Conn., and Mrs. Jane Babbitt of Alton, Ill., and four brothers, Clark of Pittsfield, Mass., and Dan, Oscar and Ebenezer, who live in the west. Mr. Robbins was 83 years old. He was a Free Mason and was buried with masonic ceremonies.
Robinson, Dr. Reuben H.

Dr. R. H. Robinson of Lee Center died of apoplexy at the Willard House in Clinton at 5 am today. He had for a long time been out of health with rheumatism and a complication of diseases.
Reuben H. Robinson was born in Perryville, Madison Co. in May 1843. If he had lived till next month he would have been 51 yrs old. He took a course of medical lectures at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and in March 1867 was graduated from the University of the City of New York. The following May he married Miss Lucy Enearl of Lee. He first practiced his profession at Fayetteville. After remaining there six months he went to Lee Center where, with the exception of about two years, he afterward lived and practiced. He was a verteran of the late war and member of Starr Post G. A. R. He was also a member of Baron Steuben Lodge, F. & A. M. He was an active Republican and took great interest in politics. Under the Harrison adminstration he was a member of the local board of pension examiners.
Besides his wife he leaves one son, Dr. Francis A. Robinson, who was last week graduated from the Baltimore College of Medicine. He also leaves two brothers, James S. Robinson of Utica and Smith L. Robinson of Canastota, and two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Dickinson of Salena, Kansas and Mrs. P. H. Huyck of Perryville.

Root, James P.

Lorena - James P. Root, a highly esteemed resident of this place, died at his home here at 8:30 o'clock on Wednesday evening after an illness of more than a year. August 1, 1909, he was stricken with paralysis and had since been a helpless invalid. All that medical skill and loving care could do was done for him but to no avail and on Thursday of last week he suffered another stroke from which he never rallied. Mr. Root was born in Stanwix on June 15, 1844, a son of the late Solomon and Esther Root, and practically his whole life had been spent in the town of Rome where he was highly respected by all who know him. A good neighbor, a kind and loving father ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, he will be greatly missed in the community. He is survived by one son, James Root of Verona, one daughter, Mrs. Herbert Blood, of this place and six grandchildren, also two brothers, Nathan L. of Manson, Iowa, Orin A. of Rome, and one sister, Mrs. Edwin J. Nisbet of Council Bluffs, Iowa, to whom the sympathy of the community is extended. The funeral was largely attended from his late home on Saturday, Rev. Richard Millington, a life long friend of Mr. Root, officiated. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Lee Center choir rendered three selections, all favorites of Mr. Root. The remains were laid at rest in the Stanwix Cemetery beside his wife who died thirty years ago.

Rudd, Mary E. Evans

Mrs. Charles E. Rudd, who died Sunday at her home in Lee Center, had been ill only eight days of pneumonia following influenza. She was 26 years old on the 9th day of last March. Her maiden name was Mary E. Evans and she was born in Delta, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Evans of Lee Center. Six years ago on Wednesday she married Mr. Rudd. When the village of Delta was taken for the storage reservoir the family moved to Lee Center. Mrs. Rudd was a very active worker in the M. E. Church and was president of the Epworth League. She was also secretary of the Lee Center Chapter of the Eastern Star, vice president of the Red Cross Auxiliary and a member of the Woman’s Foreign Missionary Society. To these organizations and to her hose of friends her death is a severe loss for she took an active interest in all of them. Mrs. Rudd was one of the most popular young women of the village and to know her was to love and esteem her. Besides her husband and parents, there survive one sister, Mrs. Adolph Anderegg, a brother, Myron L. Evans of Lee, and a daughter, Eleanor Margaret.
