Starr Post, 56 GAR

Starr Post, 56 G.A.R. was organized on February 14, 1876, with thirty members. The post was named for Emory C. Starr who enlisted from Lee in the 146th NY Infantry. Emory was taken prisoner at Wilderness, Virginia and taken to Andersonville Prison in Georgia. After his release he returned to Lee where he later died. He served from October 1862 until July 1865. Emory is buried in Lee Valley Cemetery next to his parents.

The Starr Post was dismantled in 1912 due to the death of the last member.
