back Swine-stealing next
William and Martha Munroe’s words, as filtered through the pen of some helpful scrivener,* describing Michael Bacon’s high-handed and erratic behavior in the matter of the wandering swine. The “last second day” seems to have been Monday, November 29, 1671. William apparently went to Magistrate Thomas Danforth that very night: the complaint is dated the next Thursday, December 2, but it says it was “sworne” 29:11.1671.

*And perhaps copied by Magistrate Danforth, if that’s what “vera copia” means, at the bottom. It’s lovely old handwriting, to whomever it belongs. Note the curious mixing of Old and New Style dates: in the Old Style, November 29 would be 29:9, not 29:11.
