Table of Contents

Thus far, I’ve scoped out a timeline and seven chapters. Which may evolve, as inspiration or temptation (sometimes distinguishable) strike. Click on a chapter label below to jump directly to the start of any chapter. Each chapter begins with its own Table of Contents, with a collection of topic links. Long sections have (or will have, if I live so long) linking lists of pages.

• To read straight through in the old-fashioned way, like a book or a slide-show, follow the little arrows at the top of (almost) each page or, equivalently, the“Back a Page / Next Page” arrows at the bottom. That way, you’ll encounter every item I’ve put in here.

• To view highlights only, you can follow the “This Topic” and “Next Topic” links; you’ll see only the first (often summary) page on each topic. Whenever you’ve seen enough on the current topic, you can skip over the remaining details by clicking on the “Next Topic” link. “Home” is the start of the whole document (displaying Pappy’s beautiful baby-photography).

• If you’d rather be even more selective, just click the links that strike your fancy. If you’re mousing about in the hypertext version, you may wish to bookmark Table-of-Contents pages like this one, as you encounter them, so that you can return at will to the various crossroads. With your browser’s back/forward buttons, you can retrace recent steps.

• If you’re perusing a printed copy of this document, please keep in mind that it wasn’t designed to work best in hard copy format. If you can bring yourself to approach it on the computer screen, you’ll find that the pictures are clearer there, and the hypertext links will give you a lot more flexibility. I also have higher-resolution versions of most of the images, and you’re welcome to them, on request.
