Our cousin (2C9R) Jason Russell’s house, a major
Revolutionary shrine in Menotomy (called Arlington, since 1867).
It’s still the headquarters of the Arlington Historical
Society, and it’s full of memorabilia of the West
Cambridge branch of our Russell family.
Some accounts, including this sign erected around 1930 by the
Massachusetts Bay Colony Tercentenary Commission, credit
Benjamin Russell’s
immigrant mother, our 10GGM
Martha,
with the construction of the Jason Russell House.
Current scholarship favors another story. But whoever built
the house, it was
clearly a seat of the prominent Russell clan in Menotomy.
And it was indeed there that Jason and a dozen other
patriots were butchered by the retreating Redcoats.
