Henry
LeCante operated the Bayview Hotel, on Main street. He operated a
bar and for a time operated a dining room. The LeCante's had a
beautiful daughter named Beauty, but it was pronounced Bootie, so she
was always known as Bootie LeCante. She dressed in snappy, French
style clothes. In addition to the hotel, LeCante owned several houses
which he rented to prison employees. One of the houses was an
attractive little cottage that was built on a cliff above the bay. It
was called The Barnacle, and was obviously named for its ability to
cling to its rocky foundation.
Henry
LeCante was a man of unusual build. He was about five feet tall and
almost the same measurement through the middle. He must have weighed
about 300 pounds. He was his own bartender, and he could barely mop
the bar from his position behind it because he could not get close
enough to it. Too far to reach.
