When
the C&H plant was built in Crockett, there was enough fresh
water flowing through the Carquinez Straits to provide processing
water for the plant. As the water began to be diverted for irrigation
in the central valley the water at the plant became too salty--especially
in the late summer.
A
Water Pier was built at point San Quentin and water from Mt.
Tamalpais was routed to the pier. The lake water was loaded on barges
and it was taken to the C&H Sugar plant in Crockett.
When
the use of Marin water was stopped the pier was no longer needed.
Eventually, the Marin Ron & Gun Club took over the pier and the
land immediately surrounding the pier.
