Walter Henry DEASON / Mary Lizzie HARDY - |
Lois Erin DEASON Key
Lois Erin DEASON was born on 28 Aug 1902 in Timpson, Shelby County, Texas. She was the daughter of Walter Henry DEASON and Mary Lizzie HARDY Deason. Her family moved to Amarillo, Potter County, Texas about 1911. Lois graduated from Amarillo High School on 27 May 1920 in Amarillo, Potter County, Texas. She attended the College of Industrial Arts (now Texas Women's University) in 1921 in Denton, Denton County, Texas. She married Aubrey Terrell KEY on 21 Apr 1924 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. Lois Erin DEASON Key died on 11 Aug 1971 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas and was buried on 13 Aug 1971 in Seaside Memorial Park in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas. Lois was a flaming red head with curly hair. She had long hair that she bobbed (as was the fashion then) some time soon after she got married in 1924, but in these photographs she still has her hair in fat coils hanging to mid chest. (Imagine the length of that hair uncoiled.) She is wearing a gauzy looking, ruffled, beribboned, three-piece ensemble consisting of a top, pants, and a robe. She is wearing hose (wrinkled at the ankle) with (satin quilted?) slippers which have pom-poms at the toe and appear to have hard, low heels. She is wearing a "pearl" necklace and a pinkie ring on her left hand. At her feet in one of the photographs is a pillow with the word "BURLESON." I have the original negatives, which are 5"x7" glass plates from which the images above were made. I have no idea if Burleson is the city Burleson in Johnson County, Texas, or Burleson County, Texas, or what. If you can tell me anything about young women being photographed in their pajamas circa 1920, I would dearly like to know. (I can not help but think that after all those years of her telling me to sit up straight, it seems pretty odd that here she is wearing wrinkled clothes and slumped over just like today's typical teenager.) Here is the same photograph, only tinted:
