     That she is a descendant of Israel Pickens through two of his daughters.
    On her mother's side of the house, she is the
    Daughter of Dorcas Montgomery and Robert Walkup
    Granddaughter of James Walkup and Margaret Pickens
    Great grandaughter of israel and Ann Pickens.
    Mrs. Simpson further states that Israel Pickens had five children:

    Rebecca Pickens married James Davis,

         E  SARAH NARCISSUS WALKUP, daughter of Robert and Dorcas Montgomery Walkup, born 1838 was married twice. First to Able Belk, who was born in 1833 and killed in 1865 in the Civil War. Second to a Mr. Simpson. The children of Abel and Sarah Walkup Belk were:

         F  W. H. BELK, sonof Able N. W. and Sarah Walkup Belk was born June 2, 1862. He attended Rutherford College but at an early age had to leave school and got to work. He was employed in a dry goods store, and after working there for twelve years

went into business for himself. From this small beginning, the famous Belk chain of department stores, scattered over all the Southern states developed.
     W. H. Belk married Miss Mary Irwin and they are the parents of six children.

     G  DR. W. D. SIMPSON, son of John Richardson and Sarah Walkup Belk Simpson, practiced his profession in Abbeville, S.C., for a number of years, then went to Monroe, N.C., to be associated with his half brothers in the mercantile business.
     In 1924 he moved to Greenville, S.C., and at present is the head of the Belk-Simpson department store at that place.

     E  HENRY CLAY WALKUP, son of Robert and Dorcas Montgomery Walkup enlisted in the Civil War when seventeen years of age and lost one arm. After his return from the War, he studied medicine and practiced many years in Florida. He died about 1907. He was married twice. First Nannie Ivy of South Carolina and second Ada ______

November 14th, 1807 and died at Summerville, Ala., October 27th, 1893. She was the daughter of Andrew Moore and Jane Bain Sample.
     John Harvey and Hannah Evelyn Moore Montgomery had eight chldren all of whom were born in North Caroina excepting the youngest. Their names were:

     E  MARY JANE MONTGOMERY, the second child of John Harvey and Hannah Moore Montgomery was born in Mecklenburg County, N. C. October 11th, 1834 and died in Marion, Alabama in 1926. She never married.

     E  MARGARET MALISSA MONTGOMERY, third child of John Harvey and Hannah Moore Montgomery was born in Mecklenburg County, N.C., Nov. 4th, 1836; died at Summerfiled, Ala., June 15th, 1857. On July 9th, 1856 she married Thomas Holmes by whom she had one child which was born April 15th, 1857 and died June 10th, same year.

     E  ANN ELIZ MONTGOMERY, daughter of John Harvey and Hannah Emelyn Moore Montgomery, was born in Mecklenburg County, S.C., October 13th, 1838 and died in Marion Alabama, in 1926. On December 13th, 1882 she married William Isom. She had no children.

     E  JOHN ANDREW MONTGOMERY, son of John Harvey and Hannah Emelyn Moore Montgomery, was living at San Marcos, Texas in1922. He was born September 14th, 1840 in Mecklenburg County, N.C., moved with his parents in 1845 to Summerfield, Dallas County, Alabama; and in 1867 he moved to Texas. His Civil War record shows that he was a member of Company 1, 28th Alabama Infantry C.S.A., under Captain Hopkins; served under Generals Bragg and Beauregard. At Corinth, Mississippi was badly wounded in a skirmish and then detailed in Quatermatster Department at Selma, Alabama where he remained until the end of the war.
     On April 19th, 1870 he married Ceclia Cook by whom he had thirteen children.
     The thirteen children of John Andrew and Cecilia Cook Montgomery were:

     F  JOHN EDGAR MONTGOMERY, son of John Andrew and Cecilia Cook Montgomery was born at San Marcos, Texas, March 1st, 1871 and in 1922 was living at Tynan, Texas. He has been married twice. His first wife was Dora Jane Stephens by whom he had six children. She died at Carlton Ranch, Texas, January 15th, 1906. His second wife was Mary Givhan Fourfureau, and in 1922 they had no children.
     The six children of John Edgar Montgomery by his first wife, Dora Jane Stephenes are:

     E  CHARLES GAMEWELL MONTGOMERY, the seventh child of John Harvey and Hannah Emelyn Moore Montgomery was born in Mecklenburg County, N. C., December 21st, 1844; died at Grit, Mason County, Texas, November 26th, 1919. In 1845, he with his family, moved to Summerfield, Dallas, county, Ala. In 1870 he moved to Texas, where, on November 4th, 1783, he married Georgia Levenia Woods, who in 1922 was still living and was located at Git, Texas. The twelve Children by this union were:
