Whitt, Isaac C. (b. 13 JAN 1822, d. 19 APR 1893)
Note: Whereas, on the 18th day of September, 1897, a bill was filed
in the County Court of Lincoln County, TN by R.D. Whitt; S.H.B.
Whitt; W.F. Whitt; I.J. Whitt; B.F. Whitt; J.B. Whitt; H.M.
Reyer, and wife N.V. Reyer; and A.G. Whitt, against C.B. Whitt
for the sale of lands of Isaac Whitt, deceased for partition
among the heirs of the said Isaac Whitt. The cause being styled
R.D. Whitt et al vs C. B. Whitt; and Whereas, after proper
proof and proceedings were had in said cause, a decree was
pronounced by said Court and entered in said cause at the
October term, 1897 directing the Clerk to sell said lands to
the highest bidder on a credit of one & two years, except ten
per cent of the purchse money to be paid in cash, and pursuant
to said decree the clerk J.E. Poindexter after advertising as
therein required, on its premises pursuant to said
advertisement on October 30th, 1987, during lawful hours
offered said tract of land for sale to the highest bidder at
public outcry, on said time and terms. When S.B. Smith became a
bidder and bid the sum of $2842.91, which being the highest and
best bid received. The same was struck off to the said S.B.
Smith at that sum. Which sale was reported to said court and
confirmed by decree pronounced and entered in said cause at the
December term, 1897, and found in Minute Book No. 1, page 254.

I, Imogean McDonald, found these documents in the Lincoln
County TN Records, 1 June 1995. I knew that this S.B. Smith,
was Mr. Sim Smith, father of Mr. Milton Azzie Smith that had a
farm near me. I placed a call to Milton Azzie Smith, Jr. (Bill)
and talked to his wife Margaret Kennedy Smith. The property
that Isaac Whitt owned, bought by Mr. S. B. Smith, is the
property now owned by Bill Smith, Jackie Smith, and Catherine
(Cass) Smith, widow of Adolphs Smith. The property begins at a
marker between Bill Smith and Kathleen Henderson's property on
the State Line Road and runs for one mile to a fence row
between Cass Smith and the Mitchell property. This property,
runs along the AL/TN State Line, by the Gatlin Cemetery where
Isaac & his family are buried. It is bounded on the north along
a line of the Old Daniel Hopwood farm and the Franklin
Cemetery.

This was found in the estate settlement of James Higgins of
Kelly's Creek, Giles Co., TN.
It is a note stating the method of payment for 72 acres of land
purchased by Isaac. Isaac later sold the land to David Whitt.

Isaac C. Whitt (this is the first indication of a middle name
or initial for Isaac)
Note 1st installment for land dated 30 Dec 1851, bearing
interest $255.00; Interest to 26 Jul 1853 $17.63; Total $272.63

2001. This too is from the Estate settlement of James Higgins.
This settlement is in the Archives of Giles County, TN.

Whitt, Robert David (b. 16 AUG 1851, d. 17 FEB 1910)
Note: Enlarged Spleen
Note: He was a Famer and Blacksmith. He was raised on the AL/TN
State Line road near Ardmore.

Robert David was ordained as a Deacon at the Cash Point Baptist
Church 21 May 1898. This was the second Deacon Ordination
Service. Church minutes dated January 14 and 15, 1899 indicate
that Robert Whitt was probably the second church treasurer as
minutes state, "Bro. Bob Whitt made his report on the church
finances." On October 15, 1898 minutes state that Bro. R. D.
Whitt was ordered to buy a heating stove.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and his tombstone has the
Masonic emblem on it.

He thought his granddaughter Zelma Mae Whitt was the grandest
thing he ever saw. He paid more attention to her than he ever
did his own childen. He was a fun loving man, but when he meant
business, he meant business.

Robert was a Trustee of the Gatlin Cemetery, Limestone Co, AL.
The deed for the land for the cemetery was made 7 Nov 1895 by
Nimrod G. and Synthia Besheba (McCree) Gatlin in Limestone Co,
AL Deed Bk 51 page 4. Signed in the presence of N. L. Hargrove
and W. L. Ferguson. (He is listed as R. D. WHITFIELD on the
Abstract title for the grave yard).

Whitt, John Browning (b. 09 APR 1872, d. 21 MAY 1939)
Note: From The History of the Cashpoint Missionary Baptist Church:

Brown Whitt was the first church treasurer selected by the
church on March 29, 1896.
At the time they joined the Cash Point Church, they lived
between Cash Point and Kelly's Creek. (Their granddaughter,
Mrs. Doris W. Whitt, Huston's daughter, says it was somewhere
on or close to what is now Minnie Brown Road.) Their home was a
log house and is believed to have had 2 rooms. Doris's father
told her this place was called "Lizard's Loop", but no one was
able to identify the location for us. Brown and Luella moved
from this home in 1909 to their home place on Gatlin Road in
Limestone County, approximately l 1/2 miles below the
Tennessee/Alabama State Line. They lived here until their
deaths.
The house, in which they lived, is still used as a residence.
Doris said "Grandma raised nine children and kept her home and
yard so neat and nice. I don't know how she managed it."

They moved their church letter from Cash Point on August 26,
1917. Brown died May 21, 1939 and Luella died April 17, 1952.
They are buried in Gatlin Cemetery.
