Colbert, Stephen (b. 1785, d. 05 JUL 1856)
Note: Stephen and his brother William served in the War of 1812.
They were both in the same company, 3rd Regiment of Onslow
County, North Carolina.
Stephen and his family left Onslow County between 1820 and
1830. Federal Census records show Stephen and his family
living in Monroe County, TN in 1830. Stephen family consists
of 14 members, Stephen and his wife, along with 12 children. I
can only account for 8 of the children listed in 1830, who were
still living in Lincoln Co. as of 1850. 2 of the daughters and
2 of the sons either married and we don't know whom or where
they married.
Stephen and his family moved to Lincoln County, TN in the
1830's. Stephen is listed in the 1840 Lincoln Co. Census as
Stephen CALVERT.
It is thought that Stephen married twice. His wife Charlotte
was born in 1805, while son Stephen Jr. was born 1810. From
these birthdates it is obvious that Charlotte can not be the
mother of Stephen Jr.
Sept. 9, 1849 Stephen purchased 170 acres from Robert C.
Moss. The land lay on the south side of the Elk River in the
Molino district.
It is in 1856 or so that we see the name spelling change to
Colbert. All Lincoln Co. Records prior to 1856 show the
spelling as CALVERT.
Stephen Colbert died of Dropsy at his home.

( ), R. Charlotte (b. ABT 1805, d. 28 FEB 1873)
Note: Charlotte's maiden name is thought to be Spicer. Col. John
Spicer lived in Onslow Co. near the Calvett's. Charlotte is
probably one of his grand daughters.
Note: Charlotte died of paralysis, probably due to a stroke.
