State Line United Methodist Church

The State Line United Methodist Church is one of the oldest in the area, having been organized in 1876. In that year, the Pastor of the Methodist Church in Waynesboro sent an article to the Advocate that a new congregation was begun at State Line. There is no record as to how many charter members there were in the new church.

For the first several years, the Methodists in State Line worshipped in a building used by both the Methodists and Baptists. It was in this building that the first revival services were held the following summer. The congregation soon realized they needed their own building, so a building program was begun. It was completed in 1883, and dedicated January 6, 1884.The Rev. J. W. Harmon was pastor at this time.

Since June of this year, Rev. Willis Cochran, has been pastor of State Line United Methodist Church. He also serves the Methodist Church in Buckatunna. Services are: Sunday School 10 a.m. and Worship at 11 a.m. An average of 30 folks attend Sunday School and worship each Sunday.

Information for this article was furnished by Leuneil Young, wife of Hermon Young, one of the stewards in the State Line Church.
