CHURCH OF GOD OF PROPHECY

 

The Church of God of Prophecy is located on Mt Zion Road in the Piave Community. The pastor is Rev. Don Johnston, who has served the church for about two years. This church was established in 1970 and is Pentecostal.

The first church of their faith was established on June 13, 1903 in Murphy, North Carolina. Some of the early leaders of the Piave church were: Bill and Ernestine Smith, Ronnie and Betty Johnston, and Ben and Barbara Walley.

The church in Piave has about 23 members, but has an attendance of approximately 40 people each week. They have Sunday School at 10 a.m., Worship 11 a.m., and Evening Worship at 6 p.m. Discipleship Training is on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Bro. Ronnie Johnston is Chairman of the Deacons.

The Church of God of Prophecy is the only church of this denomination in Greene County. There is one in Petal, Mississippi, and a total of 63 churches in the State of Mississippi.. The state office is in Jackson, MS., and the national headquarters is in Cleveland, TN.

The church have periodic music groups that come to the church and sing. Recently, they built a new fellowship hall, which has already been paid for in full. When Bro. Johnston was called as pastor, the church purchased a mobile home and located it near the church to serve as the parsonage. This home is also debt free.

 

Pastor Johnston is involved in the community by serving on the Volunteer Fire Department of Sand Hill as their Chief Medical Officer. He is attending Jones County College in special training for paramedics.
