New Life Baptist Church

The New Life Baptist Church began July 16, 1989 in the Southwest section of Greene County. It is now located at 9244 Highway 57. Rev. Jerry Rawls has been their only pastor. He first served the Leaf Baptist Church from 1986 until 1989. The New Life Church grew out of the Leaf Baptist Church. They first met in the yard of a church member. In fact, they met under an oak tree for the first three weeks, then an army tent was secured for a meeting place. The church met in this tent for 20 weeks until a mobile Chapel was made available from the Mississippi Baptist Convention.

In the last few years, the church has constructed a beautiful new sanctuary that will seat at least 170 people. It was dedicated in 1992. They have plans to enlarge this sanctuary to add at least 60 more seats for worshippers. During 2001 and 2003, the church constructed a Family Life Center. They have consistently averaged over 145 in Sunday School. Service times are: Sunday School at 9 a.m., with worship at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesdays services are at 6:30 p.m.

The New Life Baptist Church has two other staff members . Caleb Howell, graduate of William Carey College, and now a student at the New Orleans Seminary, is Minister of Youth. The pastor’s son, Brad Rawls, serves as Worship and Praise Director. Their deacons are: Mike Fanter, Chairman; Walter Sellers, Tony Sanderson and Dennie McLendon.

A warm invitation is extended to all to come worship and study the Bible together in this active church with an exciting spirit.
