Leakesville Presbyterian Church

The Leakesville Presbyterian Churches is one of the oldest churches in the area, being founded in 1891. The founding pastor was Rev. J. E. Triplett. Some of the founding members were: Dan McLeod, G. K. McLeod, Dr. Sam Poole, Alvin C. Maples and Dr. B. S. Peters. This church is a member of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA).

The present pastor is Rev. Joseph E. (Joe) Rolison. He was born in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Daphne, Alabama. He is a young pastor and a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, North Carolina; also, the Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. He came to Leakesville Presbyterian Church in January, 2002.

Leakesville Presbyterian Church was largely founded by Scottish immigrants, who first settled in the Carolinas, then came to Greene County, Mississippi. Their present place of worship was built a good many years ago. It has suffered damage from at least two hurricanes that have come this way. It has been rebuilt at least two times; however, it still retains the stately design of the original sanctuary.

The church has an excellent web site. For additional information about the church, take a look at: (http://www.leakesvillepres.org).

Christian Education meets each Sunday at 9:30 a.m., with worship at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. On Wednesday, the Youth Group meets at 6 p.m. and the adults at 7 p.m. The church has about 80 members with an average attendance of 40. The church also has a Ladies Ministry.

LPC has a very good choir which performs several times each year, with special programs, as well as music, on Sunday. The director is Mary Havard-McCoy.

Instead of having a Vacation Bible School this year, the church had a successful Youth Retrest.

This downtown Leakesville church is always open to visitors.
