Leakesville Church of God
The Leakesville Church of God was begun in 1981 under the leadership of Rev. Bill Allen. The church first met in the small building on the west side of town, where the present ambulance service is now located. Four years later, they moved to their present location about 4 miles west of town on Highway 57. Rev. L. F. Rogers has been the pastor for the last 16 years.
The church erected a sanctuary that served the church until a new sanctuary was completed this past year. The new place of worship will seat about 300 people and, according to Penny Dearman, is completely paid for. Sunday morning services were packed in the old smaller building. Now the church has some room to grow.
The pews in the new place of worship were given to the Leakesville Church of God by the Church of God in Lucedale, which recently built a new building. These pews were almost new when given to the church..
The deacons in the church are Ronald McDonald, John McCarty and Clovis Turner. Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m. with Worship at 10:45 a.m. Evening services are at 6 pm, and Wednesday Prayer Meeting is at 7 p.m. The church averages about 60 in the services and is growing. Visitors are always welcome.
