Leaf Baptist and Methodist Church

The Leaf Baptist Church had its beginnings in 1914 as a union church. According to Ray McLeod, now deceased, there were Methodists, Baptists and Presbyterians that used the same building. The Presbyterians moved to the Vernal area, and the Baptists and Methodists continued to use the same building until the present.

During the 50’s, the Baptists and Methodists were both fairly strong. At one time during this period, Dr. Maxie Dunnam, was pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. James T. Dunnam was pastor of the Baptist Church. So, if you came to church, whether a Methodist or Baptist, your pastor was Bro. Dunnam!

About 14 years ago, The New life Baptist Church grew out of this congregation, leaving both congregations much smaller in number. Presently, the Baptists have about fourteen members, and the Methodist only three. Rev. David Johnson is the Baptist Minister, and Bert Edwards is the Methodist Minister. The Methodists have services the first and third Sundays, and the Baptists are full-time, meeting every Sunday..

Several years ago, the churches obtained the old Leaf High School building for Sunday School and a Fellowship Hall. Both church fellowships cordially invites visitors to attend.
